Amy’s passion for animals and family time launched her placement SAE in animal systems by working as a ranch hand for her parents’ cow-calf operation. Her SAE also includes working as a veterinary assistant at Johnson Veterinary Clinic. Amy’s most significant accomplishments include learning to assist cows with abnormal calving positions, correcting a uterine prolapse, castrating, vaccinating, tagging, helping in various veterinary medical situations, animal health, fencing techniques, record keeping, and feeding various feed-stuffs. She credits her SAE placement within animal systems, time management through school activities and family experiences for shaping her college and career goals to work in the health care industry. Amy is a member of the Turtle Lake-Mercer FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Mr. Paul Buchholz. Amy plans to attend North Dakota State University, majoring in Nursing. Her parents are Alan and Mary Klain. Ethan Schaffner, Napoleon Ben’s itemized annual rental agreements cover equipment, custom hire, labor, facility rental, and land rental. He admits financial management is the hardest, so he uses the AET and QuickBooks to maintain detailed financial records of all expenses and sales. Ben is a member of the Max FFA Chapter. His advisor is Mrs. Amanda Huettl. Ben plans to attend North Dakota State University, majoring in Agriculture Economics. His parents are Galen and Bonnie SponsoredScheresky.byRoger & Jeanette Kenner and Erika Kenner & Tyler Lannoye FARMER

Entrepreneurship desires and encouragement from family launched Ethan’s agribusiness SAE known as Schaffner Brothers Lawn Care. Over six years, the lawncare business has grown from eight yards and a park to 18 yards, a park, and an apartment complex. The business serves the residents of Napoleon and Lake Isabel. The agribusiness passion enabled Ethan to launch a second business, Patriotic Net Wrap Sales. His American flag-designed net wrap is unique, and he sold four pallets in one haying season. Ethan donates part of the profits to the Napoleon American Legion and FFA Chapter. Ethan’s agribusiness SAE has taught him patience, inventory supply management, mowing, trimming, and various lawnmower brands and features, financial literacy, loan management, and customer relations. Ethan is a member of the Napoleon FFA Chapter. His advisor is Mr. Brian Schneider. Ethan plans to attend Bismarck State College, majoring in Business Administration. His parents are Rashad and Nikki Schaffner.

Ben’s entrepreneurship mind and an FSA youth loan are the foundation for his diversified SAE in crossbred beef cattle, forage production, crop production, and equipment rental. 2016 consisted of four beef cattle and 70 acres of hay land for forage production. The SAE expanded to 49 beef cattle, 325 acres of hay land for forage production, 63 acres of crop land, and his Proto Till equipment rental of 1200 acres. The forage SAE evolved to eight forages in 2021. His crop rotation consists of peas, HRSW, and pinto beans. He receives crop production advice from his father, but his father does not own any cows and Ben makes all management decisions with input from his veterinarian.

Congratulations to all who attended and competed in the various events held during the ND FFA Convention. Special congratulations to the Star Award winners, those awarded the State Farmer and American Farmer Degrees and to the new state officer team.

Mark your calendars for the Inaugural ND FFA Foundation Blue & Gold Gala, which is planned for November 5th in Fargo, and keep your eye out for more information about this exciting new event! As always, I can never say “Thank You” enough to all our sponsors and donors who allow us to provide the many opportunities to our ND FFA members. Also, a big thank you to the parents, grandparents and guardians who encourage and support the 7,100+ members of the ND FFA.

WORDS

We are now moving into the fall and winter, and the FFA Foundation is looking forward to assisting in the planned FFA events.

I was privileged to attend and participate in the Parent-Sponsor Banquet held during the 93rd annual ND FFA State Convention. It was an evening to acknowledge and thank all our sponsors, who help fulfill the mission of the ND FFA Foundation. Thank you to all who attended and who had a hand in organizing the event. A special part of the evening was presenting Warren Schlecht with the Friend of the Foundation Award. Thank you, Warren, for your dedication to the ND FFA Foundation.

Please read through the various features in this newsletter for more details and a recap of the 93rd ND FFA State Convention.
